# Personalizing your quiz

You can set up certain features in your quiz so that once a customer has taken it, they have a personalized and enhanced experience based on their quiz results.

Personalization features that you can add are:

* Status updates for returning customers
* Dynamic settings to personalize your store's navigation menu
* Integration of a "Your match" block, for products matching customers' quiz results
* A dedicated section for recommended products

## Enabling quiz personalization

To enable and adjust any personalization features, first you need to turn on the general quiz personalization feature.

**Note**

Personalization relies on the customer’s quiz results, which are stored in their browser cookies. If the cookies are cleared, this data is deleted and the quiz results are no longer remembered.

**Steps:**

1. From the Quiz builder, click the gear wheel to access the **Settings** menu, then click **Personalization**.
2. Under **Status**, click the drop-down menu and select **Enabled**.
3. Optional: Check **Show results if available** if you want to show customers who already completed the quiz their results page if they access the quiz again.
4. Click **Save**.

## Dynamic navigation settings

You can personalize your customer's experience with your online store's navigation menu after they have taken a quiz.&#x20;

New customers who click the navigation are directed to your quiz, while return customers who have already completed the quiz are directed to their previous results, which are highlighted in the navigation.

In this section of the **Personalization** page you can click the drop-down arrow to access the following options:\
\
\- **Open quiz results in a popup**: Check this box to have the quiz results open in a new popup window if a customer accesses the quiz after completing it. \
**- Update the label**: Check the box to have the navigation menu change after a customer takes the quiz. You can customize the label name.

### Updating the quiz label in the navigation

If you checked **Show results if available** in the **Enabling quiz personalization** section, customers see their results if they access the quiz again.&#x20;

To further personalize this experience, you might also want to update the quiz's label in your store's navigation menu after a customer has completed a quiz, for example to "My matches" or "My quiz results".

**Steps:**

1. From the Quiz builder's **Settings** > **Personalization** menu, click the drop-down arrow in the **Dynamic Navigation** settings.
2. Check **Update the label**.
3. In step 1's **Edit the label** field, enter the label that you want to display in the store's navigation after a customer has completed taking the quiz.
4. Click **Copy** to copy the code in step 2.
5. Open a new tab, or click **Save** in this tab to ensure you don't lose your changes, and then navigate to **Content** > **Menus**.
6. Click on the menu name that your quiz is on, then click **Edit** beside the quiz menu item.
7. Paste the link you copied into the **Link** field.
8. Click **Save**.

## Adding a "Your Match" block

If your quiz matches customers with particular products, then you can add a "Your Match" block to the matched products after the customer completes the quiz.

You need to follow different instructions depending on if your current store theme is an Online Store 2.0 theme or a Vintage theme. [Learn more about Shopify’s theme versions.](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/themes/managing-themes/versions)

### Add a "Your Match" block to an Online Store 2.0 theme

**Steps:**

1. From the Shopify admin, navigate to **Online Store** > **Themes**, then click **Customize** on the theme you want to edit.
2. Navigate to a product that you want to apply the block to.
3. Click **Add section**, then search for the **"Your Match" badge** block in the **Apps** section and click it.
4. Optional: Click the block again to open the settings and styles for the block and edit anything you want. You can click and drag the section to reorder it on the page.
5. Click **Save**.

### Add a "Your Match" block to a Vintage theme

**Steps:**

1. From the Quiz builder's **Settings** > **Personalization** menu, click the drop-down arrow in the **Add "Your Match" block** settings.
2. Click the **Vintage themes** tab.
3. In step 1, click **Copy** to copy the code displayed.
4. From the Shopify admin, click **Online Store > Themes.**
5. Click **…** to display more options, then click **Edit code**.
6. Add the code to any Liquid file in your theme. Make sure to remove this code if you uninstall the app.
7. Click **Save**.

## Adding a Recommended Products section

You can add a Recommended Products section to your theme that automatically recommends products to your customer based on their quiz results.&#x20;

Alternatively, you can also **enable smart recommendations**, which finds the best product recommendations based on Shopify's algorithm and quiz data.

To add a Recommended Products section to your theme, you need to follow different instructions depending on if your current store theme is an Online Store 2.0 theme or a Vintage theme. ### Add a Recommended Products section to an Online store 2.0 theme

**Steps:**

1. From the Quiz builder's **Settings** > **Personalization** menu, click the drop-down arrow in the **Add "Recommended products"** section.
2. In step 1, click **Copy** to copy the quiz key displayed.
3. From the Shopify admin, navigate to **Online Store** > **Themes**, then click **Customize** on the theme you want to edit.
4. Click **Add section**, then search for the **Recommended Products** block in the **Apps** section and click it.
5. Click the block you just added, and paste the quiz key that you previously copied into **Quiz key** field. You can click and drag the section to reorder it on the page.
6. Click **Save**.

### Add a Recommended Products section to a Vintage theme

**Steps:**

1. From the Quiz builder's **Settings** > **Personalization** menu, click the drop-down arrow in the **Add "Recommended products"** section.
2. Click the **Vintage themes** tab.
3. Enter any heading you want your customers to see under **Section heading.**
4. Check the options for where you want product recommendations to be displayed to customers who have already taken the quiz.
5. Click **Save**.

After enabling these options, if a customer completes the quiz, their matches will show up as a section above the footer menu on the selected pages.
