Learn the basics on how to get started with AI Shopping Assistant chatbot.

AI Shopping Assistant is a customizable, AI-powered chatbot that exists on your storefront and helps customers discover products by answering their questions. AI Shopping Assistant learns from your store data so it can answer customer questions and recommend products in real time.

This guide walks you through setting up the app, training it with your store data, customizing the appearance and tone, and making it live on your store.


1. Sync your store data

To get started, click Start setup to let AI Shopping Assistant sync your store to learn about your products and pages.

Steps:

  1. Click Start setup.

  2. If you have a password on your storefront, then enter it in the Your password field, then press enter.

  3. Click Sync store to allow AI Shopping Assistant to collect information from your products, collections, pages, and metafields.

Syncs happen automatically every 3 days. You can re-sync manually anytime after making store updates.


2. Select a theme to apply AI Shopping Assistant to

Add AI Shopping Assistant to your storefront by connecting it to a theme.

  • In the Select Theme step, from the drop-down menu, choose one of your existing store themes to apply AI Shopping Assistant to.

  • This step connects the AI Shopping Assistant to your theme via Shopify’s theme editor.


3. Customize the chat bubble

The floating chat bubble is what customers click to open the AI Shopping Assistant. You can adjust its appearance and behavior to match your store’s design.

Steps:

  1. From the AI Shopping Assistant dashboard, under Floating Chat Button, click Open in theme editor.

  2. In the theme editor, you can:

    • Toggle the AI Shopping Assistant or chat button on/off while editing.

    • Change the position of the chat bubble on the page.

    • Set hover text for the button.

    • Change the icon color.

  3. Click Save to apply your changes.


4. Add the page chat section

You can embed AI Shopping Assistant directly on a page to make it easier for customers to ask product questions while they browse. This is different from the floating chat and the product page marquee.

Steps:

  • From the AI Shopping Assistant dashboard, under Page Chat Section, click Add in theme editor. Your theme editor will open and the chat section will be added.

  • Optional: Drag the section block up or down to position it where you want on the page.

  • Click Save. These changes will be live if the AI Shopping Assistant is enabled.


5. Add product page black

Next you can add the question marquee banner to your product pages. This banner scrolls on the product page and acts as suggested questions customers might ask.

  • Under Product page widget, click + Add block to launch your theme editor on a product page. From here you can:

    • Locate where the AI Shopping Assistant chat block is and move it up or down to place it anywhere in your theme template

  • Save your changes. These changes will be live if you have the widget enabled.


6. Style the chat widget

Next, you can customize the appearance of the chat drawer that slides out on your storefront.

  • Under Style chat widget, click Customize to launch your theme editor. From here you can:

    • Adjust colors, pop out widget text and fonts

    • Choose between rounded, square, or pill-style chat

    • Upload a header logo

    • Change, show or hide the chat widget icon

  • Save your changes. This makes the chat agent live if you have it enabled.


7. Product rules

You can limit which products AI Shopping Assistant can recommend.

  • You can set the maximum number of products that AI Shopping Assistant can suggest in a single response

  • In the Excluded Products section, select any products you don’t want included in recommendations.

    • You can also exclude out of stock products.


8. Enable email sign-up

AI Shopping Assistant can collect customer email addresses during chat to help you grow your mailing list. You can customize the text prompts, include an optional discount code, and add a GDPR checkbox if needed. Steps:

  1. From the AI Shopping Assistant dashboard, under Email sign-up, click the down arrow to expand the settings.

  2. (Optional) Check Include a discount code and select the code you want to offer.

  3. Under Customer prompt, enter the text customers click to start the email sign-up (for example, “Is there a discount?”).

  4. Under Email sign-up start, enter the text displayed when the email form appears (for example, “Join our mailing list and we’ll send you 10% off your first purchase!”).

  5. (Optional) If you need GDPR compliance, check Add GDPR checkbox.

  6. Under Sign-up success message, enter the text customers see after submitting their email.

  7. Click Save & activate.


6. Choose chat tone

Set the personality of your AI Shopping Assistant.

  • Options include:

    • Friendly – Warm and approachable

    • Casual – Relaxed and conversational

    • Enthusiastic – Energetic and upbeat

    • Professional – Formal and businesslike


7. Language settings

Choose the language for your AI Shopping Assistant from the drop-down menu.
