Learn the basics on how to get started with AI Shopping Assistant chatbot.

AI Shopping Assistant is a customizable, AI-powered chatbot that exists on your storefront and helps customers discover products by answering their questions. AI Shopping Assistant learns from your store data so it can answer customer questions and recommend products in real time.

This guide walks you through setting up the app, training it with your store data, customizing the appearance and tone, and making it live on your store.

1. Sync your store data

You need to let AI Shopping Assistant sync your store to learn about your products and pages so that it can make intelligent product recommendations to your customers.

After you've installed the Quiz Kit app, find AI Shopping Assistant in the menu bar, do the following:

Steps:

  1. Click Start setup.

  2. If you have a password on your storefront, then enter it in the Your password field, and press enter.

  3. Click Sync data to allow AI Shopping Assistant to collect information from your products, collections, pages, and metafields.

Syncs happen automatically every 3 days. You can re-sync manually anytime after making store updates.

2. Select a theme to apply AI Shopping Assistant to

Add AI Shopping Assistant to your storefront by connecting it to a theme.

  • In the Select Theme step, from the drop-down menu, choose one of your existing store themes to apply AI Shopping Assistant to.

  • This step connects the AI Shopping Assistant to your theme via Shopify’s theme editor.

  • Click Enable app embed to launch the theme editor settings.

3. Customize the AI Shopping Assistant

In the theme editor, you can:

  • Toggle the chat bubble on/off, adjust its position, color, corners, and hover text.

  • Customize the chat window, including header, welcome text, conversation bubbles, and AI avatar.

  • Style AI suggested questions and product prompts, including colors, corners, and scrolling marquee.

  • Add custom CSS for advanced styling.

Make any customizations you want, then click Save to apply your changes.

4. Add the page chat section

You can add a full-width chat section, ideal for collection or landing pages.

Steps:

  1. From the AI Shopping Assistant dashboard under Page chat, click Enable section. Your theme editor is launched and the Page chat is added. Click Got it.

  2. Optional: Drag the section block up or down to move it to the position you want.

  3. Click the page chat block on the page to open customization options for the section such as logo, header and subheading text.

  4. Click Save.

5. Add product page prompts

Next you can add the question prompts to your product pages. This can be static questions prompts or a banner that scrolls on the product page.

Steps:

  1. From the AI Shopping Assistant dashboard, under Product page prompts, click Edit placement. Your theme editor will open on a product page.

  2. (Optional) Drag the section block up or down to place it where you want on the page.

  3. Click Save to apply your changes.

6. Review or update chat styling

You can return to the theme editor at any time to review or adjust your AI Shopping Assistant’s appearance. This includes colors, fonts, chat bubble shape, and header logo.

Steps:

  1. From the AI Shopping Assistant dashboard, under Style conversation, click Customize to open the theme editor.

  2. Make any adjustments you want (or leave settings as they are).

  3. Click Save.


7. Set product rules

You can limit which products AI Shopping Assistant can recommend.

  • You can set the maximum number of products that AI Shopping Assistant can suggest in a single response

  • In the Excluded Products section, select any products you don’t want included in recommendations.

    • You can also exclude out of stock products.

8. Enable email sign-up

AI Shopping Assistant can collect customer emails during chat to help grow your mailing list. You can also add a discount code or GDPR checkbox if needed.

Steps:

  1. From the AI Shopping Assistant dashboard, go to Email sign-up.

  2. Expand the settings and configure your prompts, optional discount, and GDPR options.

  3. Click Save & activate.

9. Apply language settings

Choose the language for your AI Shopping Assistant to communicate in from the drop-down menu, then click Save.
