# AI results

Quiz Kit uses AI to intelligently generate quiz results based on your quiz's questions and answers, your store data, and any rules you add to guide it.

When you set up results for a new quiz, you choose how you want AI to work for you:

**AI results**: AI generates recommendations. You can add rules to guide it, or let it work on completely its own. This option is best if you have a very large catalog, or if you want to get started quickly.

**AI + manual results:** AI generates recommendations. You can add rules to guide it, and you can use [manual result logic](/building-a-quiz/results/results-logic.md#results-logic-types) to set up result paths you want direct control over. Manual paths always take priority over AI results.

AI results vary based on your store data and any rules you add.

## Setting up AI results

By default, Quiz Kit syncs your store's products, metafields, pages, and quiz questions and answers to generate recommendations. This means you don't need to manually select products for AI to consider. It draws from your full catalog to find the best matches for each quiz taker.

You can use results rules to guide AI, and manual result logic to override any specific paths, or you can leave AI to fully control the results.

### Choose a results mode

When you first set up results for a new quiz, Quiz Kit asks you to choose between **AI results** and **AI + manual results**. This determines whether you'll have the option to add manual result paths later in your setup. You can switch modes at any time.

**Steps:**

1. From the quiz builder, click **Results** in the left-hand menu.
2. Choose a results mode:
 1. **AI results**: AI generates results from your store data. Add rules to guide it, or let it work on its own.
 2. **AI + manual results:** Set up AI results first, then manually set up paths you want direct control over.
3. Watch the video tutorial to learn more, then click **Continue**.

### Add results rules (optional)

You can set up results rules to help guide AI. The rules help AI decide what to generate for product recommendations, and are categorized as an **Exclude** rule or a **Recommend** rule. You can describe in plain language what to recommend, what to avoid, and any special cases. You can also test your quiz's AI results first and then come back to create, edit or delete rules later if needed.

This step is optional for both modes. If you skip it, AI generates results from your data on its own.

If you switch between modes, any rules you create are still saved.

**Steps:**

1. Under **Enter results instructions (optional)**, use the text field to enter any rules you want.
2. Click **Generate rules**.

### Review your results rules

AI compiles a list of rules to show you how it interpreted them. You can review, edit or delete rules in this step.

**Steps:**

1. Do one of the following:
 1. To edit a rule, click the pencil icon, adjust the text, then click **Save**.
 2. To delete a rule, click the trash can icon, then click **Delete**.
2. When you're done reviewing the rules, click **Continue**.

### Test your results

Before publishing, walk through your quiz as a customer would to check which results are returned for specific paths. This applies to both modes.

If results don't look right, then you can adjust your rules or add manual result paths for specific paths you want direct control over later.

**Tip**

You can use the path selector in the quiz preview window to quickly change the question and answer path that you're testing results for. Click **Change path** at the top of the window, select a different answer combination, and click **View results**.
{% endhint %}

**Steps:**

1. Click **Preview quiz**.
2. Click through the quiz to get to the result like a customer would.
3. Optional: Click **Retake quiz** to test multiple answer paths, or click **Change path** to quickly change the path you're testing results for.
4. Do one of the following:
 1. If the quiz results look good, click the **Looks good** button in the bottom banner.
 2. If the quiz results need more rules guidance or manual paths, click **Needs fixing**.

If you click **Needs fixing**, you return to the **Results rules** editor where you can continue to add more rules or edit the ones you have.

## Setting up manual results

### Add manual result paths

You can set up the exact products to recommend for a specific quiz path, overriding AI for that path. This is available in **AI + manual results** mode.

Manual result paths always take priority over AI results.

**Steps:**

1. From the results builder, click **Editor** at the top to switch to the results editor.
2. Choose a [results logic type](/building-a-quiz/results/results-logic.md). This determines how your quiz maps answers to results. You can change your logic type at any time.
3. From the left-hand menu, click **+ Add result**.
4. Follow the setup steps for your chosen logic type.

### Switch between results modes

You can switch between results modes any time and you won't lose any rules you've created.

**Steps:**

1. From the results builder page, at the top of the left hand menu, you see your results mode next to **Results**.
2. Click the current results mode to open the drop down.
3. Click the mode you want to switch to.
